Hon. Tekla Mkuchika: The “Shield” Protecting the Regional Commissioner from Surprise Attacks!

Adeladius Makwega – Musoma, Mara, Tanzania

If there is one thing the people of Mara Region have mastered besides their hospitality, it is the art of giving “surprises”! And if there is someone who has learned how to skillfully avoid these unexpected moments, it is none other than the Regional Commissioner of Mara, Hon. Colonel Evans Alfred Mtambi.

Speaking on July 17, 2026, Colonel Mtambi openly admitted that his people are extremely welcoming—but sometimes their kindness comes with a joyful “heart-stopping” surprise that no one sees coming!

While concluding the meeting, he shared a story that left some participants laughing:

“On March 8 last year, I was invited to attend an event as the guest of honor. I arrived prepared to deliver my speech, but before I could even begin, I suddenly received a birthday surprise—remember, my birthday is March 1! I was given a cake, people sang ‘Happy Birthday’, and within minutes I found myself becoming the main character of a celebration I had not planned for!

“These days, whenever I sense that something is being prepared, I do not take chances—I send Hon. Tekla Mkuchika to represent me. She has now become my personal ‘surprise protection system’!”

In simple terms: Tekla Mkuchika is not only the District Commissioner of Butiama—she is also the official “surprise shield” for the Regional Commissioner!

Earlier, during the same meeting, which discussed preparations for the Uhuru Torch reception scheduled for August 1, 2026, Colonel Mtambi delivered a patriotic message: preparations should not be treated like a seasonal fashion trend, but rather become part of the daily responsibilities of leaders.

“We are talking about the owl statue for Tarime Town Council; we must fight to remove it,” he said firmly—although the “owl” itself appeared calm, as if it had no idea what was happening!

And that was when the small drama began.

The District Commissioner of Tarime, Hon. Major Edward Gowele, confidently declared as if he had already won the case before the judgment was delivered:

“The statue will leave Tarime.”

But the interesting part was that the statue itself was right there in front of him—quietly staring back with a mysterious smile. The writer was left wondering: was that a smile of victory, or one saying, “Let us wait and see”?

The Tarime District Administrative Secretary, mwalimu Saulo Mwaisenye, was not spared either. Every time he spoke, the “owl” sat beside him like an unpaid personal assistant.

However, the highlight came when the Tarime Town Executive Director, Gimbana Ntavyo, gently embraced the statue with great care, almost like a mother comforting a newborn baby, while at the same time explaining their strategies to ensure that the “owl” leaves their council.

At that moment, the writer of this article found himself deep in thought:

“Is the life of this statue not better than mine?”—and for a few seconds, he wished he could exchange places with it!

Musoma District was not ready to be left behind. Its District Commissioner, Hon. Juma Chikoka, confidently stated:

“We are ready.”

The statement sounded like a student happily waiting for an examination rather than fearing it.

Rorya also delivered its “last-minute update”—Hon. Alfa Haule said they were completing the final preparations, as if they were putting the final touches on a victory celebration.

Bunda? Ah, Bunda spoke without saying much! The District Commissioner, Hon. Enock Kaminyonge, dressed in a well-fitted blue suit that looked as though it had been designed specifically for him, remained quiet for much of the meeting.

But his silence carried a powerful message:

“We are here, and we are ready!”

And as usual with stories that have many characters, someone was missing. The writer’s eyes searched for the District Commissioner of Serengeti but did not succeed in finding him. Perhaps he too was busy preparing a strategy to avoid a

“surprise”!

Finally, the main character of this unique story—Hon. Tekla Mkuchika—gave a short but meaningful statement: they are eagerly waiting for the Uhuru Torch.

In unofficial translation: he is ready to welcome the torch… and, if possible, continue rescuing others from unexpected “surprises”!

Wishing you a wonderful day.
