GOD’S PLAN

Adeladius Makwega – Mbagala, Tanzania

Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Today, I invite you to draw closer, open your hearts, and listen carefully to this powerful story with deep lessons from the lives of those who came before us.

The Bible tells us that when King David had grown very old, he had a son named Adonijah. He was handsome and impressive in appearance—but my brothers and sisters, not everything that shines is gold! Within his heart, something very dangerous began to grow—pride. He started to see himself as the one who deserved to be king.

Without consulting God… without asking… without waiting for God’s timing… Adonijah began to organize things his own way. He built his own strength, gathered chariots, horsemen, and guards to surround him. Not only that—he drew influential people to his side, such as Joab, the commander of the army, and Abiathar the priest, to support his plan.

My brothers and sisters, sin begins slowly… but its end is destructive!

Adonijah went even further—he prepared a great sacrificial feast and declared himself king! But look carefully—he did not invite Solomon, the one chosen by God. He did not call those who stood for righteousness. Everything was done in secret, in deception, as if God does not see!

But I say again, my brothers and sisters—nothing can be hidden from God!

Prophet Nathan and Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother, recognized the danger that was coming. They did not remain silent! They quickly went to King David and reminded him of his promise—that Solomon would be king.

And here we see David rise with courage! He did not say, “Let’s wait until tomorrow”… no! He acted immediately. He commanded that Solomon be placed on the royal mule, taken to Gihon, and officially anointed as king before all the people.

Suddenly, the air was filled with loud shouts and celebration! The people cried out, “Long live King Solomon!” My brothers and sisters, the celebration was so great that the ground seemed to shake!

And when those who supported Adonijah heard the noise—they scattered! They ran away and left him alone!

That was the moment Adonijah realized… “I have made a mistake!”

In great fear, he ran to the altar and held onto its horns, pleading for mercy. And here we see the heart of Solomon—a heart of mercy. He said, “You will not be harmed if you prove yourself faithful.” So Adonijah came down, bowed in humility, and returned to his home.

But my brothers and sisters… (listen carefully here!)

Mercy is not permission to continue in sin!

After King David died, Adonijah’s desire did not end. That same spirit of seeking power returned again! He went to Bathsheba and asked her to help him request from Solomon permission to marry Abishag.

But behind that request was a hidden agenda! In that culture, doing such a thing was equal to claiming the throne!

When Solomon realized this, he did not take it lightly. He clearly saw—this is rebellion! This is an attempt to take what God did not give him! So he gave the order for Adonijah to be put to death. And that was the end of the journey of pride.

Afterward, Solomon strengthened his kingdom. Joab was also put to death because of his past actions, and Abiathar was removed from the priesthood. God established Solomon’s kingdom firmly.

Now, my beloved brothers and sisters, what do we learn?

First—pride leads to destruction! Do not exalt yourself… do not promote yourself… wait for God to lift you up.

Second—plans made in darkness end in shame. Nothing is hidden before God!

Third—respect God’s plan. What God has established, no human can change.

Fourth—do not take mercy for granted. If you are forgiven, change!

Fifth—the desire for power is poison! It can completely destroy you.

Therefore, my brothers and sisters, this story calls us today—to live in humility… to live in obedience… and to learn to be content with what God has planned for us.

Because in the end, it is not the one who exalts himself who will stand… but the one who humbles himself before God.

May the Lord bless you all. Amen!
