Adeladius Makwega – DODOMA.
My dear reader, I kindly ask for your patience as I remain within my basket of opinions, which is filled with many views; therefore, allow me to continue going through them one by one.
The person whose name has stood out most in these opinions is the beautiful LADY Faraja Kotta. The first issue that has emerged in these comments concerns the beauty of Faraja Kotta and her biological mother, Mrs. Margaret Kotta — who is more beautiful?
This issue has been debated by many former Tambaza students who studied there at different times, while MADAAM Kotta taught several subjects including History and even French.
“According to our standards as elders, we say without blinking an eye that our teacher, Mrs. Kotta, was more beautiful (many times over) than her daughter — Mama Kotta was twice as beautiful as her daughter.”
Said one Tambaza graduate from the late 1970s.
Apart from MADAAM Kotta, another female teacher who taught at Tambaza and is mentioned as being very beautiful is MADAAM Hirji, who was of mixed Chagga heritage.
Maadam Hirji is also compared with Teacher Margaret Kotta, but still, madaam Margaret Kotta emerges as the winner in that comparison.
Another teacher who had the opportunity to teach at Tambaza and is remembered for her beauty is madaam Mdemu.
As Tambaza students, we greatly wished for madam Mdemu to teach us, and personally I never got that opportunity. However, in the classes she taught, her students loved her very much — they were attracted by her dressing style and also by the way she taught her subjects, and in the end they performed very well. Madaa, Mdemu also had a habit of changing cars every time she came to work.
Unfortunately, during the teacher transfer upheavals of 1993, madaam Mdemu was transferred to Forodhani, where I believe she eventually retired from public service. The Tambaza students who were taught by her were left in sorrow.
“Even today, if she visits Muhimbili National Hospital, she will surely meet a group of Tambaza students who are now doctors whom she taught. I believe if she goes there, she might recover even before receiving treatment.”
A certain contributor whispered to me.
My reader, you may ask yourself: where does Mwanakwetu personally stand among these three teachers — Kotta, Hirji, and Mdemu?
To be honest before God, I saw Kotta and Mdemu; I was not fortunate enough to see Teacher Hirji.
Personally, I say that both Teacher Mdemu and Teacher Kotta were beautiful.
“Indeed, even her smile matched her body — Margaret Kotta was very beautiful. Let us also pray that God may lessen the punishment of the grave for her and her husband, because for us who are alive today, it is our duty to do so whenever we remember them for their good deeds. This English we are proud of — without them we would be nothing, and they receive part of the reward when we use the education they gave us for the benefit of our Tanzanian society.”
These are not my words, but the opinions of Hussein Salehe.
