In ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of children living in various care homes, a strong call has been made to owners of children’s homes in Mara Region to work closely with social welfare officers.
The call was made by the Mara Regional Social Welfare Officer, Ms. Elizabeth Mahinya, who emphasized that the success of services provided to children depends on unity and open communication among all stakeholders involved.
Speaking on June 30, 2026, during a working session that brought together social welfare officers and children’s home owners, Ms. Mahinya stressed that no challenge is insurmountable when cooperation is given priority.
“It is time to build a strong bridge of collaboration. Where gaps once existed, let us close them immediately. Everyone must be willing to listen and work with one another. By openly sharing our challenges, we will find collective solutions and improve the services we provide to our community,” she emphasized.
Her message was positively received by stakeholders. Ms. Rhobi Samwel, owner of the Hope for Girls and Women Tanzania home, stated that they are ready to turn these words into action by ensuring that cooperation becomes part of their daily operations.
Meanwhile, Ms. Sofia Kiwanga, also a Social Welfare Officer in Mara Region, explained that significant progress has already been made, with implementation of goals reaching 76 percent. She added that the remaining work lies in strengthening efforts to fully implement the agreed resolutions.
In addition to the discussions, the meeting also witnessed the election of leaders for the Mara Regional chapter of UMAWATA—the Union of Children’s Home Owners in Tanzania. The elected leaders, who will spearhead efforts to strengthen the sector in the region, include Chairperson Ibrahim Mussa, Secretary Chuni Manyama, Treasurer Said Tinde, and Deputy Treasurer Godfrey Mchome.
The meeting brought together a diverse group of stakeholders from religious institutions and private organizations, reflecting a shared commitment to ensuring that children receive quality, safe care and a hopeful future.
Together, the stakeholders demonstrated that where genuine cooperation exists, the future of children becomes brighter.
