It is the morning of May 1, 2026. The Regional Commissioner of Mara, Hon. Colonel Evans Alfred Mtambi, arrives at the Regional Workers’ Day celebrations held at Muembeni Grounds in Bunda District.

There was light rainfall in the area, but it did not disrupt the public event. Residents of Bunda and surrounding areas continued with the celebrations, some roasting meat, while Colonel Mtambi informed workers that the government has so far paid their outstanding arrears amounting to nearly 3 billion Tanzanian shillings, including salary arrears and other debts.

“Moreover, about 1,708 employees have been promoted. I now ask you to continue working hard.”

The celebration was graced by the presence of the Mara Regional Administrative Secretary, Mr. Gerald Musabila Kusaya, along with several heads of public and private institutions. Workers entered the grounds carrying banners and work tools. To enhance the celebration, TANESCO Tanzania displayed a large vehicle demonstrating how electricity poles are fitted with wires and connected.

As is customary during Workers’ Day celebrations, the solidarity anthem ‘Mshikamano Daima’ was sung, although this time only the chorus was performed.

Earlier, the Regional Commissioner, dressed in a black suit, inspected various exhibition booths set up around the area. including the University of Agriculture and Technology in Butiama, which explained that it offers various programs from diploma to degree level, with two campuses: Oswald Nang’ombe Campus and the Main Campus.

Several moments attracted attention, especially when the Regional Sheikh of Mara, Ustadh Musabaa when led the opening prayer. In his prayer, he included a request asking the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Samia Suluhu Hassan, to increase workers’ salaries. The workers responded loudly with ‘Amina,’ and the prayer was highly applauded.

The event concluded at around 5:00 PM with entertainment, preceded by the awarding of outstanding workers.

Meanwhile, the weather in Bunda town was 21°C, humidity at 20%, with an 87% chance of rain. Heavy rain fell, accompanied by winds blowing at 2 km/h.
