“We are in the Sixth Sunday of Easter. We are approaching the end of this glorious season, and in the Gospel of this Sunday from Saint John, there is a beautiful reminder and preparation as we move toward the Ordinary Time of the Church. This Gospel reading takes us back to the Last Supper, where Jesus revealed to his disciples that he would suffer and die, but another Helper would come to be with them forever.
Jesus will ask the Father to send the Spirit of truth. On that day, the Lord tells his disciples:
‘You will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.’
This Helper will guide the disciples—that is, the Church—so that He may lead us always, remind us of the Word of God, and enable us to be in unity with God the Father through His Son Jesus, who promised that He would not leave us as orphans.”
These are reflections by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples of the Catholic Church, which is responsible for missionary work worldwide and is headquartered in the Vatican, as he preached on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
My fellow Christian, are you there? Remember:
“…This Helper will guide the disciples, that is, the Church, to lead us always and remind us of the Word of God…”
Wishing you a good day.

Guided by the Helper
In Easter’s glow, near season’s end,
A gentle voice, a truth to send.
From Saint John’s words, so calm, so deep,
A promise made for all to keep.
At supper last, Christ spoke with care,
Of coming pain, yet hope still there.
“A Helper comes,” He softly said,
“To guide your hearts where you are led.”
Through Luis
Antonio Tagle, this truth we hear,
God’s Spirit stays forever near.
Reminding us of sacred Word,
In every place His voice is heard.
Not
left alone, not left to roam,
In God’s great love, we find our home.
