Mara Regional Commissioner, Colonel Evans Alfred Mtambi, has commended religious institutions and various denominations for their active involvement in providing social services, including healthcare, education, agriculture, livestock development, and other humanitarian assistance.

He said that through these efforts, religious organizations are helping the government by easing the burden of service delivery to citizens.

“These initiatives have been carried out without regard to our religions, races, or family backgrounds. We are all Tanzanians, and we are all brothers and sisters,” he said.

The remarks were made during a fundraising event for the improvement of infrastructure at the Virgin Mary of Fatima Church and the purchase of a vehicle for Songe Parish in Musoma, Mara Region, on May 31, 2026.

At the event, Colonel Mtambi represented the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Mwigulu Nchemba (MP).

While leading the fundraising drive, Colonel Mtambi said that he, together with the Mara Regional Security and Defense Committee and a contribution from the Prime Minister, donated a total of TZS 75 million. Parishioners and other leaders contributed an additional TZS 40 million, bringing the total amount raised to TZS 115 million.

Addressing the gathering, Colonel Mtambi urged religious leaders in Mara Region to continue condemning violence, harmful traditional practices, and the misuse of social media.

“A nation that lacks the fear of God is a dead nation. Religious leaders, we stand with you, and whenever you need support, it will be provided so that Tanzania remains a nation of good morals and reverence for Almighty God,” he said.

He further emphasized the importance of national unity, stating:

“Faith, ideology, and family background should not be reasons for division; instead, they should serve as a catalyst for greater unity among us.”

Speaking on behalf of the laity and the Parish Laity Council, Father Wilbert Manembo thanked Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba for his contribution and assured him that the parish would continue praying for all government leaders.

Earlier, while welcoming the Regional Commissioner, Musoma District Commissioner Hon. Juma Chikoka described the Songe Parish fundraiser as an outstanding event, noting the strong response from parishioners and participants, all of whom contributed willingly and without complaint.

“From the depths of my heart, I can proudly say that today I have become part of the efforts to improve the infrastructure of this parish. I will continue visiting the site regularly to monitor the progress of this project,” he said.

Prior to the fundraising event, Colonel Mtambi and other leaders attended a Holy Trinity Sunday Mass at the Virgin Mary of Fatima Church, Songe Parish.
