Adeladius Makwega – Musoma
Musoma District in Mara Region has added another community radio station that broadcasts on 97.3 FM, named GM.
According to Mwanakwetu’s research in Musoma town, the station is located in Nyakato area, and the name GM stands for Ghati Memorial.
Mwanakwetu could not establish the exact reason for the name, but has observed that the station is widely listened to around Musoma town.
“I am Patrick Mnubi from Musoma, broadcasting from Nyakato on GM 97.3 FM.”
Speaking near the GM 97.3 FM Radio premises, presenter Patrick Mnubi said the station is heard in Musoma, Bunda, Butiama, Serengeti, and other parts of Mara Region.
“Our radio station will unite the people of Mara Region. GM will strengthen brotherhood among us.”
The research also identified several presenters such as Imani Luoga and Rambo Elia hosting programs on the station.
Speaking via phone from Dodoma, the Member of Parliament for Musoma Urban, Mgore Miraji Kigera, said she supports GM 97.3 FM in informing the people of Musoma, adding:
“Radio plays a major role in building unity among us. Personally, I recognize that in Tanzania the contribution of radio is very well known. I am confident that GM 97.3 FM will enhance the role of radio in the development of the people of Musoma, Mara Region, and neighboring regions.”
What does Mwanakwetu say today?
Currently, media outlets are rapidly being established while social media continues to grow fast. Radio, television, and newspapers have been forced to adopt social media platforms to keep up with the times. Tanzania is estimated to have about 250 radio stations broadcasting nationwide.
