Beautiful Even in Her Mind

Adeladius Makwega, Musoma

Many times in our lives here on earth, we receive a lot of news about people getting married, and we make many promises of contributing to make those weddings successful—yet we often forget one important thing: to pray for the success and well-being of that marriage itself.

On May 20, 2026, Mwanakwetu received a message on his phone that Mr. Phares Magesa was planning to get married to Dr. Mbiki Msumi.

This news surprised Mwanakwetu greatly for many reasons. One of them is that he has known both Phares and Mbiki for many years, since they were young and striving in their life journeys. He received this message while in Musoma town in the evening of that day.

As he read the message, Mwanakwetu first remembered Mr. Phares Magesa:

“From his days as a student at Azania Secondary School in the mid-1990s in Dar es Salaam, wearing a white shirt and khaki shorts. Later, Phares in his Tanzania Scout uniform, then as President of the Basketball Association, and eventually as a CCM politician in Temeke District, seeking nomination for parliamentary seats—first in Kigamboni and later in Mbagala. These efforts led him to be elected as a member of the CCM National Executive Council for Temeke District, at a time when each district had representation before that system was abolished. The people of Mbagala strongly supported him, as he is also an expert in ICT.”

Remember, Mwanakwetu is recalling all this immediately after learning about Phares’s upcoming marriage to Dr. Mbiki Msumi.

Then Mwanakwetu’s mind turned to the image of Dr. Mbiki Msumi—a Tanzanian legal scholar, highly accomplished from the lowest levels of legal education up to a PhD, and currently a lecturer at the Open University:

“While studying for her Bachelor of Laws at Tumaini University, Iringa (2005–2008), she was a tall, dark, gentle, and calm young woman. She was well-known, yet without pride.”

Mwanakwetu also remembered these words from the then Vice Chancellor of Tumaini University, Professor Nicolous Bangu, about Mbiki Msumi:

“This young woman is beautiful even in her mind. Look at how she answered these questions in our committee—truly, she has great legal ability.”

Professor Bangu said these words during a committee meeting in which Mwanakwetu was also a member, during the 2007/2008 academic year.

Dear reader, remember that Mwanakwetu is recalling all this about these two individuals—Phares Magesa and Dr. Mbiki Msumi—fellow Tanzanians he met in various life journeys in Iringa and Dar es Salaam. After this reflection, Mwanakwetu decided to write all this down.

So, what does Mwanakwetu say today?

He knows Phares Magesa as a gentleman—calm, not quick to anger, someone who helps others using his knowledge, ability, authority, and the blessings God has given him. Meanwhile, Mbiki Msumi is a humble, calm, respectful, religious, intelligent, and dignified woman—beautiful both in character and intellect.

Indeed, Mwanakwetu offers his heartfelt congratulations to Phares Magesa and Mbiki Msumi for their decision to get married:

“Phares and Mbiki, this is a wonderful thing. May God bless your marriage and grant you abundant grace and open doors of blessings in your life together.”

To you, my reader, I chose to write this so that you may understand life and the world better, and as a journalist, Mwanakwetu has added his voice in support of this union.

Mwanakwetu, Are you there?

Remember:

“This Beautiful Young Woman—Beautiful Even in Her Mind.”

Have a good day.
