Adeladius Makwega – Mbagala
April 21, 2026 was a slightly amusing day. Mwanakwetu was completely broke, and to comfort himself, he decided to scroll through social media to see what was happening. He browsed here and there before settling on the page of Rashidi Shangazi, the Member of Parliament for Mlalo in Lushoto, Tanga Region. He went through and examined several photos with different themes, one after another. At some point, he came across a photo of Hon. Rashidi Shangazi dressed in a neat kanzu, entering Parliament. Mwanakwetu remarked,
“Yes, this is Ustadh Rashid Son of Shangaza of Mlalo entering the Parliament.”
He continued browsing and came across another photo of Hon. Shangazi with a certain elegant lady. Now, the Mwanakwetu admits his eyesight is not what it used to be, and on this day, he had forgotten his glasses at home. Going back to get them was difficult because motorcycle (bodaboda) transport fares had doubled. So he decided to spend the whole day without glasses, struggling to read. Looking closely at the photo, he thought the two looked very good together. He wondered, ‘Is this the wife of Hon. Shangazi?’ But then he recalled that he knows the MP’s wife—he had seen her twice in Mlalo and three times in Dodoma. He was certain he would recognize her even from afar.
The photo intrigued him, and he even considered calling Hon. Shangazi to ask for the woman’s phone number just to greet her. But then he realized that the woman in the photo was actually the Tanga Regional Commissioner, Hon. Batilda Buriani. At that moment, he thought to himself,
“Oh my! Me, the child of Makwega, asking for the phone number of the Chairperson of the Regional Security Committee? Am I looking for trouble? What if they think I’m making fun of the government? The police might arrest me!”
He quickly calmed himself, saying:
“Batilda Buriani is married in Zanzibar—and truly, I, a man from Mbagala, don’t joke with people from Zanzibar.”
So he abandoned the idea, deciding he didn’t want any trouble with the Security Committee or with Zanzibaris. He continued scrolling, saying,
“Let me keep browsing—one who walks freely is not idle; maybe I’ll find something.”
Suddenly, he came across another photo of Hon. Rashidi Shangazi wearing a blue suit, standing next to another beautiful woman. He liked the photo very much and again wondered, ‘Who is this? Is she his wife?’ After examining carefully, he concluded she was not. He became hooked on this photo like a bird caught in a trap. His new task became reading the comments one by one.
One comment from Ali Kizigha read:
“Mghoshi uyonndai mzaighanana”(in Kisambaa, meaning: “Brother, who is that? You look alike.”)
Another comment from Yusuph Salim said:
“Osie baba ushezachepuka.”(Meaning: “Hey father, have you already started cheating?”)
After reading all the comments, Mwanakwetu concluded that the woman in the photo was likely a fellow Member of Parliament, and the picture was taken outside Parliament.
Mwanakwetu became curious to know her name and which region she represents. He even jokingly swore to his readers that he would ask Rashidi Shangazi for her phone number—and if Shangazi refused, he would go as far as contacting the Speaker of Parliament to get it!
“Here I’m not afraid—my fear only applies to the Chairperson of the Security Committee and to Zanzibaris.”
This was Mwanakwetu’s social media adventure on April 21, 2026, which led him to those photos of Hon. Rashidi Shangazi and his fellow MP.
Mwanakwetu jokingly adds:Readers, don’t come and tell me like Shangazi’s voters did:
“Hey father, have you already started cheating?”
So what is the message today?
If Mwanakwetu ever gets that phone number, he says he will call the honorable lady and invite her to visit Mbagala—to enjoy the Indian Ocean breeze at Kijichi, then take her to Kigamboni to see animals at the Dar es Salaam Zoo, and even let her swim where the Mzinga River meets the Indian Ocean so she may receive the blessings of the Tanzanian coast and serve as an MP for many years.
He even jokes that he would take her to Mahenge to visit the Selous Game Reserve. If she turns out to be related to Hon. Rashidi Shangazi, he offers his sincere apologies in advance!
Are you there, dear reader? Remember:
“Hey father, have you already started cheating?”
Have a nice day.
