“I wish all residents of Mara a happy Easter. I urge each one of us to celebrate this holiday in peace and calm. After the celebrations, may everyone return safely to their respective workplaces and areas where they earn their income, because here in Mara we say: ‘Miganyaro comes first…’”
These are remarks from the Mara Regional Commissioner, Honorable Colonel Evans Alfred Mtambi, speaking via phone as he extended Easter greetings to the citizens of Mara Region in Tanzania.
Mraba refers to a place where any kind of work is carried out, especially farming. Duara refers to a mining site where each miner is allocated a specific mineral-rich area to excavate. Miganyaro is the fair distribution of earnings among miners working within a duara after completing mining activities. These are terms widely used in Mara Region, which is rich in gold deposits.
Earlier, while speaking to employees of the Butiama District Council at the Amali Vocational Training School, the Mara Regional Administrative Secretary, Mr. Gerald Musabila Kusaya, also extended Easter greetings to all workers in the Mara Region.
“My employees, I know you are not strangers to celebrations. I understand that guests bring many activities during such occasions. I wish you all a Happy Easter.”
Easter is a Christian holiday celebrated worldwide on the Sunday following Good Friday. It commemorates the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who rose from the dead on the third day.
