“Thus says the Lord of Hosts: These people say, ‘The time has not yet come—the time to rebuild the Lord’s house.’ Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai, saying: ‘Is it a time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses while this house lies in ruins?’ Now therefore, thus says the Lord of Hosts: ‘Consider your ways.’”
These are the words quoted by Tanzania’s Minister of Defense and National Service Construction, Hon. Rhimo Nyahsaho, on April 11, 2026, referencing the book of Haggai chapter 1:1–5. He was encouraging Christians in Tanzania to continue building their houses of worship, emphasizing that it is not right for a Christian to live in a good house while their church is in poor condition.
Hon. Nyahsaho made these remarks while leading a fundraising event for the construction of offices for the North Mara Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Tarime, Mara Region.
While speaking at the event, he said:
“I have come here on behalf of the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Mwigulu Nchemba, whom you invited. Even if he had come himself, I would still have joined you, because I am also a Seventh-day Adventist and I come from this Mara Region.”
Continuing his speech, the Minister added:
“I am grateful that this church has succeeded in educating many Tanzanians, including Professor Philemone Sarungi, Professor Samweli Wangwe, and many others since it began its educational services in 1913 here in Tarime. The contributions of scholars like Prof. Wangwe and Prof. Sarungi have benefited many Tanzanians.”
Earlier, the Mara Regional Commissioner, Hon. Colonel Evans Alfred Mtambi, while welcoming the Minister, expressed appreciation for his continued closeness and cooperation with the people of Mara despite his national responsibilities.
“Welcome to Mara. Our region is now doing well—we are no longer leading in negative issues, and there is great peace. We also ask you to take a closer look at the condition of the Tarime road.”
During the fundraising, the Prime Minister Hon. Mwigulu Nchemba, the Minister of Defense, and the Regional Commissioner collectively contributed 82 million Tanzanian shillings, while members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church contributed over 500 million shillings. In total, nearly 600 million Tanzanian shillings (close to 200,000 USD) were raised.
The event was attended by various leaders from districts and municipalities across Mara Region, led by the Acting Regional Administrative Secretary, Mr. Humphrey Frolence Kong’oke.
Mr. Kong’oke said:
“We are here together with all these leaders, including heads of departments, units, and sections from the Office of the Regional Commissioner. Importantly, we used few vehicles in compliance with the government directive to reduce fuel usage.”
There were many notable moments at the event. Two stood out:
First, the remarkable ability of Seventh-day Adventist believers to raise nearly 500 million shillings—a significant amount of money.
Second, when the Regional Commissioner invited the congregation to sing the hymn:
“All hail the power of Jesus’ name, Let angels prostrate fall…Bring forth the royal diadem,And crown Him Lord of all…”
The song energized everyone present, regardless of denomination.
Are you there? Remember:
“Build your houses of worship with quality.”
Have a nice day.
