Adeladius Makwega – MBAGALA
“Kiteto Constituency is a large area, covering 17,000 square kilometers, with a span of about 500 km. There are farmers and workers who work very hard, but the main challenge is roads. Here, TARURA roads are only 1,291 km, while paved roads are just 4 km… These are very few roads and they must be improved by increasing them. There is no avoiding the need to expand these roads. I will persist strongly during this period—I will talk only about roads. The Kongwa–Kiteto–Simanjiro–Arusha road cannot be avoided…”
These are remarks by the Member of Parliament for Kiteto Constituency in Manyara Region, Hon. Edward Ole Lekaita, delivered on April 13, 2026, in the Parliament of the United Republic, stating that the people of Kiteto have sent him to raise one main concern: the road problem in the constituency.
He said that whenever any ministry opens a session for questions, he speaks only about roads—his task is to ensure that this issue is raised in every ministry.
Hon. Lekaita, who is also a lawyer, also mentioned the Handeni–Chemba–Kibirashi–Singida road, which passes through several regions to Tanga, where an oil pipeline will pass and the Port of Tanga will expand. These are two key roads that will open up the economy for the people of Kiteto.
As Hon. Lekaita presented this argument in Parliament, Mwanakwetu was deeply moved by the road challenges facing the people of Kiteto, a district with nearly 400,000 residents, while the region has close to 1.9 million people. About three-quarters of these 400,000 residents are from rural areas, making up about 21% of the entire population of Manyara Region.
This issue greatly touched Mwanakwetu, who also noted that the people of Kiteto own nearly 400,000 livestock, including cattle, goats, donkeys, and pigs.
Following this argument, Mwanakwetu said internally that from now on, whenever Hon. Lekaita presents his views, Mwanakwetu will stand with him in raising the voice of the people of Kiteto—supporting all Kiteto residents, who make up 21% of the population of Manyara Region—because 4 km of paved road in Kiteto is far from sufficient.
I know Mwanakwetu readers might ask: why is Mwanakwetu, a young man from Mbagala, now standing with the people of Kiteto? Has he found a Maasai bride through Hon. Edward Ole Lekaita?
Whatever you may think, dear reader, understand this: 1,291 km of dusty roads in Kiteto is unacceptable. The number of paved roads must increase in Kiteto District.
Mwanakwetu, are you there?
Remember:
“1,291 KM of Dust Roads in Kiteto Must Come to an End.”
Have a nice day.
