Our Sins Crucify Jesus Again on the Cross

Christians have been told that just as they entered Palm Sunday with joy in welcoming Christ, they should not be like the Jews who welcomed Him with great celebration but later turned against Him, and those very palm branches were used in the events leading to His crucifixion. These words were spoken by Frater Justine Selestene Mapesa of the Musoma Catholic Diocese during the Palm Sunday service on March 29, 2026, at Mwisenga Parish, during the second Mass.

“We must remain with Christ at all times in our lives; we should not be inconsistent.”

While preaching during this Sunday service, Frater Mapesa said:

“The suffering of Jesus Christ has great value because it brought redemption to humanity and even gave Christians their identity as Christians. These sufferings must be honored and respected, while each person strives to abandon sin. When you commit sin, you crucify Jesus again and place a crown of thorns on Him.”

Frater Mapesa emphasized his sermon by going beyond denominational boundaries and said:

“Seventh-day Adventists have a song called ‘Nyundo’ (The Hammer) which carries very rich Christian theology. The song speaks about a man imagined to have been present when Jesus was being crucified. As he stood there, he watched the crowd’s actions as they crucified the Lord Jesus. He observed carefully and then asked himself: ‘Who nailed the King of Peace here?’ Later, he realized that all this was done by a hammer. Eventually, he concluded that the one responsible for that wrongdoing was none other than himself, because of his sinful and unjust life. My dear people, let us abandon sin.”

Earlier, while giving the introductory remarks for the Mass, Father Julius Ogolla said that in African life there are many celebrations where people carry branches and rejoice in victory. For example, if your cattle are stolen and later recovered, there is great joy when they are brought back home. Similarly, in communities that practice male circumcision rites, if a young man undergoes the procedure bravely without crying or showing fear, his family, clan, and the whole community celebrate. In the same way, during Palm Sunday, Christians rejoice in Jesus as a victor—even though human beings are often inconsistent.

Meanwhile, outside the church walls in Musoma town, the weather was 26°C, humidity at 0%, a 53% chance of rain, and wind blowing at 8 km/h.

Mwanakwetu, are you there? Remember:

“Our sins crucify Jesus again on the Cross.”

Wishing you a good day.
