Magu Overpowers Bukoba

Several athletes from Magu District in Mwanza Region made a sports tour to Kagera Region, where they participated in various games as part of building friendship between them from March 26 to 28, 2026, with Magu District winning all the matches.

This was observed around Bukoba Municipality, where a bus labeled “Chama cha Walimu Magu” (Magu Teachers’ Association) was seen in the streets, and the group of athletes was also spotted moving from one place to another, taking part in different games.

All of this took place over three consecutive days—March 26, 27, and 28, 2026—in Bukoba.

In several venues, Bukoba Municipality failed to secure any wins despite playing on home ground.

“In the tug-of-war, Magu won twice while Bukoba Municipality got nothing. In football, Bukoba Municipality scored zero while Magu netted three goals. Even in handball, Bukoba Municipality scored 14 goals while Magu scored 24.”

In a rather disappointing turn, even in cheering, the team from Magu District had more vibrant and energetic supporters, while Bukoba Municipality appeared subdued despite being on their home turf.

Speaking after the victory, one of the motivation leaders of the Magu District team, Bahati John, said they were happy with the win, but emphasized that the main goal was to build unity rather than division:

“It’s true we have won all the games, but the most important thing is that when I come to Bukoba again, I won’t feel like a stranger. I’ve made many acquaintances. Mwanza, Kagera, and even Mara are neighboring regions—they are brotherly regions.”

On her part, Maimuna Hamisi, who was among the supporters from Bukoba Municipality, said that although they lost all the games, that is simply the nature of sports:

“We will organize ourselves better and we will go to Magu—and surely we will win. I think our opponents just outsmarted us, or maybe they had ‘fisi wa Kisukuma’”

Mwanakwetu, Are you there?

“Magu overwhelms Bukoba.”

Have a nice day.
