LUSHOTO LEADERS MOURN LUKAS SHEMNDOLWA

Alpha Mushi, who once served as the Planning Officer for the Lushoto District Council in Tanga Region, said that if Lushoto District truly mourns the late Honorable Lukas Shemndolwa, then it must honor the good work he did during his lifetime. Shemndolwa served as the Council Chairman for several terms and was also a councilor for Lukozi and Malindi since 1990.

“There are several achievements you simply cannot ignore in terms of how he managed them. For example, the construction of the Lushoto District Council building. On multiple occasions, after completing the work, the contractor demanded payment and even threatened to take the long-established council to court. Honorable Shemndolwa, the then Director, and I traveled to TAMISEMI to push for those payments.”

Mushi added that many people may not be aware that the Lushoto District Council offices were previously located near Hazina Primary School.

He continued:

“Lukas Shemndolwa warmly welcomed all of us employees to the council, and we felt at home in Lushoto. Many of us, even after retirement, have remained in Tanga because of the warm reception we received when we first arrived.”

Kaniki, one of the long-serving headMasters in Lushoto District who attended the funeral, said that the name Lukas Shemndolwa will never be forgotten in the Education Department—both primary and secondary—because he strongly encouraged the people of Lushoto to educate their children.

Speaking shortly before the burial, the CCM Chairman for Lushoto District, Ali Daffa, said that he worked with Shemndolwa when he himself was a councilor in Lushoto Town:

“I used to challenge him in Finance Committee meetings and even in the Full Council using procedural rules, but Shemndolwa would always control me using those same rules—rules he knew thoroughly by heart.”

Chairman Daffa also expressed concern that the Malindi vegetable market is still not operational despite being completed. He said leaders must urgently meet to ensure that the government’s investment in building the facility and installing refrigeration does not go to waste. If the market becomes operational, Lushoto’s vegetables could be sold in markets nationwide and even internationally while maintaining their quality.

Speaking at the funeral, Marietha Michael Msagati, a Special Seats CCM councilor for Mtae Division, said:

“I have lost a father, a leader, and someone close to me in learning politics within CCM and in government meetings.”

Jafari Nkupe, the councilor for Kwemashai Ward, said that Lukas Shemndolwa has completed his journey, and now it is their turn to learn step by step from his life. He posed the question: if their colleague has left a legacy, what legacy will they leave when their time comes?

The Chairman of the Lushoto District Council, Witness Mwizage, said that Shemndolwa fulfilled his duties both as a councilor and as council chairman, and they will continue to do the same in honor of his service.

Earlier, while leading the funeral service, Pastor Kakai from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (Northeastern Diocese) said that no human being lives forever:

“Do not use your life on earth to mistreat others. Use it to build a good life for yourself in the eternal world to come.”

Indeed, a large crowd of Malindi residents gathered at the family home and later laid Shemndolwa to rest within the family compound.

During the proceedings, the weather in Malindi town was about 22°C, with light drizzles accompanying the funeral until its conclusion.

“Lushoto Mourns Lukas Shemndolwa.”

Have a nice day.
