Adeladius Makwega-MBAGALA
“Makwega, do you remember those old youthful stories—when you pursue a woman, she gives you a hard time, then you give her something without handing over the ownership documents or card, and later when the love fades, you repossess it?”
Mwanakwetu replied,
“That’s childish love. Mature and confident people like Mwanakwetu—when they give something to the one they love, they give it together with the ownership papers. If it’s a car, they hand over the registration card. That is true love.”
The man asked,
“Brother Mwanakwetu, are there really people who do that?”
Mwanakwetu answered,
“Yes, they exist. Everyone gives according to their ability. The one with a bicycle gives a bicycle; the one with a motorcycle gives a motorcycle; the one with a house gives a house; the one with a car does the same. What do you give?”
The man laughed loudly.
Earlier, before this exchange, Mwanakwetu had been in a meeting. His phone rang several times. He answered quietly,
“Brother, I’m in a meeting—send a message.”
The man sent a message, but Mwanakwetu, busy in the meeting, did not read it. The man called again. Mwanakwetu answered, and the man said:
“Makwega, read the message. You who are educated, help your brothers—we are being humiliated.”
Mwanakwetu glanced at the message but did not fully understand it and placed the phone aside as the meeting continued until midday. After the meeting, he reread the message. It said:
“Journalists, how will you help us—CCM councillors are being stripped of our motorcycles?”
Suddenly Mwanakwetu received a visitor with personal complaints requiring attention, so he put the message aside again. He assisted the visitor in speaking to the relevant authorities, and the visitor left.
After some time, the man called repeatedly. Mwanakwetu tried to return the call but had no phone credit. The man called back and continued with the earlier metaphor about giving cars and houses as gifts. He went further:
“In 2025, CCM distributed motorcycles to several leaders, including CCM councillors. But surprisingly, the party has now ordered that the motorcycles be returned to the district CCM secretaries.
Brother, those motorcycles are worn out. Many people have sat on them—God created human beings with different buttocks (no offense intended). The seats have been heavily used… subjected to all kinds of wear and tear… and now they want them back! These people are astonishing. Don’t they know that at the ward level, a councillor is the fourth-ranking leader? And within the party hierarchy toward state leadership, a councillor is third—first the President, then the Member of Parliament, then the councillor. They are disrespecting and humiliating us.”
Mwanakwetu thought silently, fearing that saying it aloud might hurt the CCM councillor whose motorcycle had been repossessed:
“Our Secretary General, Dr. Asha Rose Migiro, is a woman. Perhaps when she was young, she was once given something without ownership papers, and later it was taken back—that may be why her CCM councillors are now returning motorcycles…”
The man did not hear these thoughts. Instead, he continued:
“There are many rumors—people say Tundu Lissu did this or that…”
Mwanakwetu replied,
“No, Tundu Lissu is detained, busy with his treason case. What does he have to do with CCM motorcycles being returned here and there? He is not involved in this. You who are fasting Ramadan or observing Lent—look at this matter with fairness.”
The man agreed.
Mwanakwetu then told him,
“Give me about two hours to work on this issue; then I’ll get back to you.”
Later, Mwanakwetu confirmed that indeed in several areas CCM councillors were given motorcycles to use during the General Election campaign of October 29, 2025, in Tanzania. They were not given ownership documents for those motorcycles. However, there has since been pressure to return them, which is why this CCM councillor complained.
So what does Mwanakwetu say today?
In this matter, CCM should reflect deeply. If you, as a parent, decide to buy clothes for your child so they may be properly dressed, how can you then allow the child to wear those clothes during Christmas celebrations and, once the holiday is over, repossess them? That is unacceptable—completely unacceptable.
Mwanakwetu says CCM should immediately halt the exercise of confiscating motorcycles from its councillors.
Are you there, Mwanakwetu? Remember:
“CCM Should Immediately Halt Its Exercise of Confiscating Motorcycles from Its Councillors.”
I wish you a good day.
