Adeladius Makwega – MBAGALA
In mid-January 2026, Mwanakwetu visited the social media page of a woman named Maria Mlyuka, who lives in Area D, Dodoma, Tanzania. While there, he came across a post with the following words:
“Guys, defending Rucy is a real task, hahahaha! Father Dr. Kitima is not your bishop, sister, hahahaha! This man is a priest and the Secretary General of the Tanzania Catholic Bishops’ Conference, hahahaha!”
After reading this post, Mwanakwetu laughed a lot and continued browsing Maria Mlyuka’s page. A little further on, he encountered a second post with these words:
“They were struck with blindness, lost their senses, failed to understand one another like those of Babel, and began speaking things that made no sense—PENTESTATION, hahahahaha!”
Mwanakwetu just kept laughing, and then he came across a photo of a light-skinned woman who had cut her hair. Right there, he took out his phone, copied Maria Mlyuka’s phone number, saved it carefully, and prepared to call her so he could talk to her.
My reader, I know you understand that Mwanakwetu was on Maria Mlyuka’s page.
For your benefit, dear reader, know that Maria Mlyuka was born in Iringa Region, where she studied at Nduli Primary School near Iringa Airport. In 2005, she joined Isimani Secondary School in the Isimani ward for Form One. She was among the students taught by Mwanakwetu during the years 2004–2009. Maria Mlyuka was admitted and assigned to Form One C in 2005.
Mwanakwetu remembers several things about the Form One students at Isimani Secondary School in 2005:
“Many female students became pregnant and dropped out of school, while others left to work as housemaids in various parts of Tanzania. Teachers struggled to ensure that those who had left school to work as housemaids were traced—parents were arrested, questioned about the whereabouts of their daughters, and the girls were returned to their villages to continue their studies. Teachers worked together with the Isimani Ward Executive Officer known as MAKENDI and the Isimani Village Executive Officer known as KISEWE. All the girls from Isimani Secondary School were given accommodation within the Catholic Church at Isimani Parish during the time of an Italian priest known as Father Angelo. Maria Mlyuka studied well and successfully completed her studies there.”
Remember, Mwanakwetu had already copied Maria’s phone number and called her.
Hello Maria, how are you?She replied, I’m fine. Shikamoo, father. Shikamoo, teacher.” Mwanakwetu replied, Marahaba.
So, my child Maria, why have you cut your hair?
Maria replied:
“It’s true, father, I’ve cut my hair. There’s a lot going on; I don’t even have time to go to the salon anymore, so I decided to cut my hair.”
Mwanakwetu said,
“That’s fine, but your salon friends will be upset—they know you’re no longer their customer and you won’t be giving them money anymore.”
Maria Mlyuka replied,
“That’s true, they’ve missed out on my money.Mr Makwega, whenever I see you online I remember so many things, I remember so far back, my father. But teacher, these days I’ve grown up—if you saw me now, you’d be surprised, I’ve grown big.”
Mwanakwetu laughed heartily and then said goodbye to his former student, who is now an entrepreneur in the city of Dodoma.
So what does Mwanakwetu say today?
Today, Mwanakwetu has decided to tell you how happy he was to visit the page of his former student Maria Mlyuka, whom he taught 21 years ago, in Iringa Region. He has also explained the many challenges faced by girls from Iringa in pursuing their education in those days. Dear reader, also understand that Mwanakwetu’s students are very intelligent—this is one of them, Maria, daughter of Mlyuka, from Nduli Airport.
Mwanakwetu , are you there?
What should this article be called?
People Have Been Struck with Blindness? Or My Child, Why Have You Cut Your Hair?
Mwanakwetu chooses: “My Child, Why Have You Cut Your Hair?”
I wish you a good day.
