Adeladius Makwega – Musoma, MARA
On the morning of January 13, 2026, the Office of the Sub-Treasury Registrar here in Musoma, Mara, received a delegation from the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), Mwanza Zone, led by Ms. Rosemary Palagha, Assistant Manager – Services Unit. Several discussions were held, during which she said:
“Indeed, we and the Sub-Treasury work very closely. All payments are carried out jointly; we cooperate to ensure this work is properly executed. Therefore, close cooperation between the Bank of Tanzania and the Sub-Treasury is essential—we are like identical twins.”
Ms. Palagha stated that the Bank of Tanzania continues to carry out its duties well, and that their visit to Musoma was part of their official work, not a picnic. Responding to Mwanakwetu’s question regarding Bank of Tanzania banknotes and their signatures, she said:
“For now, the banknotes remain the same—those bearing the signature of Mwigulu Nchemba in his capacity as Minister of Finance and Emmanuel Tutuba in his capacity as Governor. They continue to be in circulation.”
Based on his own observation, Mwanakwetu looked at a 2,000-shilling note he had in his pocket, which indeed bore those signatures.
Inwardly, Mwanakwetu remarked that Mwigulu Nchemba’s signature would continue to assert itself on our banknotes, even though he is now the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania.
On his part, the Head of the Sub-Treasury here in Mara, Henry Mishwaro, said that he warmly received the delegation from the Bank of Tanzania. They held in-depth discussions aimed at improving work efficiency, since they depend on one another:
“At present, for all payments to be made and completed, we are among the teams responsible for ensuring this happens swiftly through financial payment systems. The Government of the United Republic has many large-scale projects across all areas of the Lake Zone, with both local and foreign companies involved. Therefore, frequent phone communication and meetings here and there are normal, and that is exactly what we did here today in Musoma.”
These discussions also involved several other officials from the two institutions, both of which fall under the Ministry of Finance of the United Republic of Tanzania.
While present, Mwanakwetu was particularly impressed by the uniforms of the Bank of Tanzania staff—especially the female employees, who were dressed in black suits with gold-colored blouses, looking very elegant. He even asked for their phone numbers. In his mind, he was reminded that the gold color resembled the tie he wore back in 2009 when he got married. Mwanakwetu was given their phone numbers and wrote them down, and in honor of the gold color that resembled his wedding jacket from 2009, he decided to write this article about these two government institutions of the United Republic of Tanzania.
As all this was taking place here in Musoma town at the Sub-Treasury office, the weather conditions were as follows: temperature 26°C, humidity 10%, chance of rain 62%, and wind blowing at 14 km per hour.
Mwanakwetu, are you there? Remember:
“Banknotes Bearing Mwigulu’s Signature Continue to Be in Use.”
I wish you a good day.
