The Mara Regional Commissioner, Colonel Evans Alfred Mtambi, held a meeting with residents from several wards in Serengeti District bordering Serengeti National Park on June 2, 2026. He stated that authorities responsible for wildlife management should employ all appropriate measures to ensure that destructive wild animals do not cause damage to crops or communities living adjacent to the park. He also urged residents to cooperate with all institutions working to address the challenge.

“The issue of wild animals must be resolved in a timely manner. That is why I have come here with my experts. The process of clearly separating grazing areas from the national park must be completed so that each party respects the boundaries of the other,” said Colonel Mtambi.

Colonel Mtambi made these remarks while responding to a question from Ms. Sofia Prosper of Makundusi Village, who wanted to know when the long-standing problem of wild animals destroying their crops would be addressed. She explained that she has been a resident of the village since 1984 and that the challenge has persisted for many years.

During the meeting, residents of Makundusi Village collectively raised various concerns and offered suggestions. Among them was Sabato Sabato, who proposed the installation of a special fence to keep wild animals within their designated areas and residents within theirs.

Speaking before welcoming the Regional Commissioner, the Serengeti District Commissioner, Angelina Marko Lubela, welcomed him to the district and explained that the meeting provided an opportunity for residents to engage directly with him.

Ms. Angelina Lubela added:

“Serengeti District remains peaceful, and residents continue with their daily activities. Various challenges are being addressed and resolved.”

Earlier, while opening the meeting between the Regional Commissioner and the residents, the Chairperson of Makundusi Village, Mseti Joseph, congratulated the Mara Regional Commissioner for visiting the village and noted that it was his second visit to the area.

The wards represented at the meeting were Natta, Kyaimbai, and Ikoma. Makundusi Village alone has a population of approximately 8,000 residents and is located in Natta Ward.

The meeting was attended by members of the Serengeti District Security and Defense Committee as well as the Mara Regional Security and Defense Committee. The Mara Regional Administrative Secretary, Gerald Musabila Kusaya, also participated in the visit, which began earlier that day.

While these activities were taking place in Makundusi Village, the weather in Serengeti District on June 2, 2026, was recorded at 28°C, with humidity at 40%, a 37% chance of rain, and winds blowing at a speed of 13 kilometers per hour.
