Adeladius Makwega – MUSOMA
The Regional Commissioner of Mara has inaugurated the GM 97.3 FM Radio station and stated that Tanzania is now significantly increasing the number of media practitioners across the country through content creators, bloggers, and those working on social media platforms, while urging media outlets to perform their duties with high professionalism.
He made these remarks on 29 May 2026 in Musoma town, emphasising:
“If used properly, the media will provide education in various sectors and liberate society as a whole, but if used improperly, it is a dangerous weapon.”
Colonel Mtambi stressed that media outlets must provide accurate education to the people of Mara, particularly on economic development, and avoid spreading misinformation, including beliefs in superstition. He noted that reliance on traditional healers is now outdated, and that educating the public is a key responsibility of the media across sectors such as mining, tourism, agriculture, health, livestock, and others.
Earlier, while welcoming the Regional Commissioner of Mara, the Musoma District Commissioner, Hon. Juma Chikoka, said that Musoma is progressing well and expressed his gratitude for the ongoing developments in the district, including the launch of GM 97.3 FM Radio.
“I sincerely congratulate you for inviting the Regional Commissioner of Mara to this event. Now Musoma will receive reliable information through GM Radio.”
On his part, Michael Kembaki, Director of GM FM Radio, thanked the leaders of Mara Region for their cooperation in supporting his investment, noting that the station has now officially begun operations. He added:
“GM 97.3 FM Radio will operate professionally and reach every stakeholder in development through our skilled presenters, having invested 200 million Tanzanian shillings in this media project.”
Meanwhile, in Musoma town, the weather conditions are as follows: temperature is 28°C, humidity is 10%, the chance of rain is 54%, and winds are blowing at 14 km/h.
